Comments have been moderated for quite some time, and will likely remain moderated for the life of this blog.
While free speech is a cornerstone of American policies and belief systems, it is a falsehood that anyone has a right to say whatever they like on the internet and the rest of the world just has to “deal with it”. That being said, I have a right to keep comments in moderation if I feel that the comment is not conducive to any conversation or discussions.
Hate speech will not be tolerated. This is not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism speech, though these are the least likely types of comments that will be published on my site. This applies to overt and covert representations of this behavior.
I am a proponent of civil discourse and educated discussion. I embrace debates and will do so as respectfully as possible. I will not, however, tolerate people who attack me, readers, or commenters on my site. If you cannot find a civil and decent way to make your point then your place to voice your opinions and viewpoints is not here.
I also reserve the right to go ahead and publish your comment if for no other reason than to make an example of you if you choose to break these guidelines.
Most people can comment and share their opinions and thoughts without being unnecessarily rude and nasty toward other people. I suggest asking yourself whether you would read your comment out loud to your mother, grandmother, or an 8-year-old child. If the answer is no, then it’s likely best not to post your comment at all.
Here’s a TL:DR list for those who hate words and reading:
- Don’t use hate speech.
- Don’t use ableist speech.
- Don’t be an offensive asshole.
- Do share your opinions, even if they different from mine, in a constructive way.
- Do be decent to each other.
- I will choose to NOT publish your comment if you’re an asshole. Why?? Because I fucking can, that’s why.
